Seeing the Light

There is a point in every photographer’s  ‘photo life’ when they start to see the light. Yes, it’s always been there, but it’s a new awareness & attention to everything- the way you view life will never be the same again. You know how the light will fall onto your subject, even if your subject is not present. You know exactly what camera settings you’d use in this situation, even if you don’t have your camera. You compose shots in your head based on the current lighting. Once you ‘see’ the light, you can never unsee it. It’s like a permanent pair of glasses that photographers cannot take off. Ask my husband, I literally cannot go anywhere without pulling my car over and taking a picture of a certain lighting situation with my phone. It’s crazy. I bet it’s the same with a designer, or any kind of artist, really. Finding inspirations in places that you would never think to look…

Anyways, this morning as Harleigh Rae unexpectedly woke up at 6:30, I got up to put on cartoons for her. I let the dogs out as well and was just going to go back to sleep on the couch, but guess what? Yes, you guessed it- I went outside to put the dogs out and I saw the lighting. sigh. I went and got my camera from my office and headed back outside to shoot. I shot for about 10 minutes, finding beauty in places I didn’t know existed in our backyard (because I had never been in our backyard during the sunrise).

I don’t know how I would view these if I weren’t a photographer, but I do hope you enjoy these
